This post-conference field tour offers participants a rich experience, combining on-site learning in disaster resilience with cultural exploration. Beginning with a visit to the Roshi area, recently impacted by severe September 2024 floods, participants will gain firsthand insight into disaster effects, resilience strategies, and engineering interventions in response to flood-induced landslides. The tour then continues to Panauti, one of Nepal’s most ancient towns, renowned for its heritage architecture and sacred river confluence. Finally, a guided visit to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, will showcase Nepal’s medieval art and architecture, emphasizing preservation efforts for cultural resilience. This tour provides a comprehensive view of Nepal’s approaches to disaster recovery and cultural heritage conservation.

Detailed Itinerary

  • 08:00 AM | Departure from Radisson Hotel
    • Meet at the hotel lobby for check-in and briefing. Depart promptly at 8:00 AM for Roshi Municipality.
  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Field Visit to Roshi Disaster-Affected Area
    • Focus: Examine the impacts of the September 2024 floods, including severe flooding and landslides. Guided discussions with local experts will highlight disaster response, resilience strategies, and geotechnical interventions.
  • 12:00 PM | Lunch at Balthali Village Resort, Balthali, Kabhre
    • Experience: Lunch will be served at Balthali Village Resort, offering scenic views and a taste of local hospitality.
  • 01:00 PM – 01:30 PM | Visit to Historic Panauti
    • Highlights: Brief stop in Panauti, one of Nepal’s oldest towns, known for its preserved architecture and sacred river confluence. Tour includes notable structures like the Indreshwar Temple.
  • 02:30 PM – 03:30 PM | Exploration of Bhaktapur Durbar Square
    • Focus: Guided tour of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcasing Newar artistry and resilience in heritage preservation. Key sites include the 55-Window Palace, Nyatapola Temple, and Vatsala Temple.
  • 04:00 PM | Return to Radisson Hotel, Kathmandu
    • Return journey to the hotel for further conference activities or departures.
